Josée completed an MA in Wellness and Spa Service Design from Estonia to learn about traditional spa practices rooted in ‘health by water’ and hydrotherapy, the original meaning of spa for healing and wellbeing. Her research focused on the significance of community and social wellbeing in retreat settings. She was the recipient of the International Spa Association’s scholarship in 2014. During this time, she trained in a thermal spa practice called whisking at the International Bath Academy and later completed a certified training with the Lithuanian Sauna and Spa School.
Josée worked as Sauna Meister at the Nordic Spa to practice and deepen in a sauna ritual she learned during an internship at Toskanaworld in Germany. She lived in South Korea to learn about the Korean bathhouse's (Jimjilbang) and was the first international representative with the Korean Spa Association. Josée consults and lectures at the School of Architecture at Dalhousie University on cross cultural thermal bathing and bathhouse design. Josée's also an energy and body worker in Relaxation Massage, Cupping, Thermal Spa Therapies, and Reiki. She's a meditation practitioner and instructor in the Buddhist tradition. She started Steam Space in 2016, a lab to connect naturally through contrast elemental bathing in restorative social settings. |
