On what was a hay field at the edge of Wentzell Lake in 1990, there is now a rich 30 year-old permaculture. This diverse landscape includes two wild brooks flowing out of the forest, and an extensive beaver meadow that hosts, in addition to a friendly beaver family, thousands of other species of plants and animals. Nestled into the wild riparian areas annual vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, and natural grasslands. This 4 acres of land is now wealthy in beauty and bounty and very healthy in its abundance and diversity of life.
In the centre of the gardens is a large covered arbor with one of the three Windhorse gongs and central fire pot. This is a refuge from the hot sun or wet rain and wonderful place to gather for conversations with old friends or new acquaintances. Several weddings have been celebrated here, accompanied by birdsong and fresh breezes.
In another way, the gardens are a gateway to Wentzell Lake, perfect for a swim or paddle when the surface is liquid or skate when the ice is thick.
