Services & Amenities

Windhorse Farm is located on 200 diverse acres, comprising majestic old growth Acadian forests, meadows, extensive organic gardens, ornate and wild flower gardens, rivers, brooks, ponds and a long beach along the shores of Wentzell Lake. It is a paradise of stunning beauty and absolute tranquility, perfect for a weekend escape with a small group of friends, family or as a romantic  escape with your partner. Time at Windhorse Farm can be spent enjoying absolute stillness and quiet, or it can be filled with any number of activities.

Take time to wander in what has been called the "longest standing experiment in sustainable forestry in Canada" at Windhorse Farm! The forests and meadows offer over 22 kilometers of wilderness hiking trails, allowing you to immerse yourself in the beauty of one of the last remaining examples of healthy, in tact Acadian Forest.

The gardens are the abundant fruit of 18-years of permacultural design and care on the shores of Wentzell's Lake. They produce a large amount of the food available for sale and for programs at Windhorse Farm, as well as for the non-human animals that abound in the area. The Sweetwater Native Plant Nursery, adjoining the gardens, is a rich storehouse of trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials native to the Acadian Forest.

In addition to the tranquilizing beauty of the forest, gardens, and high meadow, there are contemplative walking trails, the kami shrine at Drala Pool, and a sauna at the swimming pond. Enjoy a wood-fired sauna at night, followed by a swim in the deep waters of the pond  steps away from its front doorstep. You can go canoeing or kayaking on Wentzell Lake, or snooze along the LaHave River. If you like to help out, collecting eggs in the barn is a possibility, as is working in the eco-wood shop, the native plant nursery, the gardens or the forest.

Solitary and group meditation practice is a staple at Windhorse Farm -- in the Great Room in Juniper Lodge or in the forest. An experienced "guide/instructor" can support your practice.
