This is a little word with a huge meaning.

The forest is much more than a place where there are trees. Perhaps we are fooled because trees are the largest organisms of the forest, or maybe it is because industry and government call any tree-covered land (even clearcuts) "forest".

Whatever the reason, we invariably underestimate the complexity of the web of life that is the forest.

In this region it includes hundreds of thousands of species, many of them not even named by humans. But even more awesome than the number of species is the complexity of interaction among all of them. Each interacts in some way, some in many ways, with each other.

Can you imagine the intricacy of this living web we call the forest?

If one part is damaged the whole fabric is in danger of unraveling, so the safest approach is to maintain the whole forest, functioning as naturally as possible.
