ABOUT WINDHORSE FARM

Windhorse Farm is situated on a peaceful lake in southwestern Nova Scotia. This heritage farm has been worked sustainably for 168 years and is a diversified celebration of rural life; retail eco-wood business and forestry, permaculture gardens, food processing, seed saving, native plant nursery, and domestic animal care.

We are a family farm with neighboring employees, many friends and visitors, set in 250 acres of Acadian forest welcoming people who share our enthusiasm for rural, personal and community development in a meditative learning environment. 

Applicants for this position must have knowledge and experience:

  • Growing and harvesting herbs, vegetables, flowers, fruits.
  • Composting, pruning and greenhouse culture.
  • Garden planning, including crop rotations.
  • Organic soil development, pest/weed control, nutrient and water management.
  • Knowledge and experience in food processing (canning, drying, freezing, root cellaring).
  • Skill and experience in cooking local seasonal food for small groups.
  • Interacting with co-workers in a co-creative leadership style.
  • Offering friendly and informative tours to farm visitors.

  
The successful applicant will

  • have a cheerful and adaptive personality and a desire to live a simple life off the grid in a rustic forest cabin.
  • have a keen interest in, and experience of, personal meditative/contemplative discipline.
  • have experience in program development and coordination
  • be a non-smoker, without accompanying dog or cat.

LIVING SITUATION

You will live in a rustic forest cabin with private bedroom, shared kitchen, off grid solar power, next a well with pure clean water. A short walk will take you to the gardens, pavilion (phone, internet, VCR/DVD, community space), office, farm house, showers, sauna, swimming pond, lake and river.

We are about 10 min drive from Bridgewater and 1.25 hours from Halifax, so a car might come in handy. We meditate together in the afternoon and occasionally have potluck dinners. Please refer to our website for more information on buildings, meditation and farm philosophy.
