Job Opportunities - 2 Gardeners

Short Term Gardener
The position begins this spring and will be a spring through fall position. The gardeners responsibilities will include:
- Knowledge and experience in growing herbs, vegetables, flowers and fruits.
- Eagerness to live in a rustic cabin and live a simple life.
- Enjoys people , giving tours and guidance for others to work in the garden.
- Ideally likes to cook what they grow and provide occasional meals for 10-20 people.
Long Term Gardener
The gardener’s responsibilities will include :
- Native plant nursery maintenance, sales and propagation,
- Seed saving and sales,
- Maintenance of perennial flower gardens (e.g watering, weeding, edging),
- Lawn mowing,
- Pruning and caring for fruiting bushes, canes and trees,
- Making compost,
- Harvesting and preserving herbs, flowers, fruit and vegetables, limited vegetable gardening,
- Green house culture,
- Conducting public tours
The successful applicant for the long term position must
- be an experienced meditation practitioner,
- work smart and effectively,
- be a well organized person with experience in horticulture,
- enjoy, and excel at, working with a team of people as a leader,
- be an excellent communicator,
- have experience in food preservation (drying, canning, freezing, and root cellaring),
- be computer literate,
- able to work with a budget.
Other desirable skills, abilities and experience include
- working with the public,
- use of “Open Space” and other “Art of Hosting” technologies,
- having lived in a rural community,
- beekeeping, forestry, and caring for domestic animals,
- implementation of clean energy technology, e.g. solar, wind, hydro, geothermal,
- knowledge of permaculture, bio-dynamics, 4-season gardening,
- having worked with The Natural Step, Ecological Footprint Analysis, or other sustainability programs.
