Facilities at Windhorse Farm

Windhorse Farm offers a stimulating and relaxing environment in which to enjoy a variety of activities. We can host your vacation, meeting, conference, workshop, or retreat in comfortable style. The built environment is beautiful and functional, and the natural landscape is unbelievably peaceful.

Two self-contained group retreat facilities accommodate up to 16 people with full amenities (country style). Each of these includes bedrooms, washrooms, kitchen, dining room, meeting rooms and meditation hall. Of course the best offering is what comes naturally – the forest itself.

Forest cabins are available for one person or up to 10 people. Special accommodation sometimes can be made for larger groups. The cabins have wood heat stoves, solar electricity, and no running water. Composting outhouses are not far away, and water can be drawn from a nearby well.

Regardless of where you bed down, the facilities available for your daytime activities are extensive. In addition to the tranquilizing beauty of the forest, gardens, and high meadow, there are contemplative walking trails, the kami shrine at Drala Pool, and a sauna at the swimming pond. You can go canoeing, kayaking and swimming in the lake, or snoozing along the LaHave River. Socializing in the evening often happens at one of the fire circles. If you like to help out, collecting eggs in the barn is a possibility, as is working in the wood shop, the native plant nursery, the gardens or the forest.

Solitary and group meditation practice is a staple at Windhorse, in the meditation hall in Juniper Lodge, in individual retreat cabins, or in the forest.

An experienced "guide/instructor" can be provided for each program, for as much time as the group wishes. The schedule and curriculum can be designed to meet the needs of the group, or left completely open and relaxed if that’s best.
