Summer Activity at WHF

  • The sun is hot and the plants are growing fast.
  • Swimming is refreshing and exhilarating.
  • Canoeing on the ripple-free lake in the early morning and late evening is quiet and peaceful after a hot day in the gardens.
  • The birds are quieter now that the rush of spring courtship is over. The young are learning what life on the wing is all about. The beavers have greatly expanded their lodge, and the groundhog has expanded her family. Long days of plenty.
  • The gardens are fertile and food is abundant. It is the best year ever for fruit --- apples, pears, cherries, plums, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and currents. The flowers are splendid.
  • In the spring kitchens we’re beginning to put up food for next winter.
  • The wood sheds are filling up with dry wood.
  • The chickens egg laying has tapered off since spring, but there are still plenty of eggs for eating.
  • The deep forest is delightfully cool with soft breezes and gently flowing brooks.
  • The action and relaxation of summertime at Windhorse is in full swing. Come join us.
